Learning Opportunity – Chaplaincy and Specialized Ministry Conference “Holy Mama off the Chain by Clarissa Pinkola Estes: A discussion about Grief and Empowerment” with Lunch
We often encounter people who don’t want to deal with grief.  Some of us are also afraid of grief, and from time to time, some of us are grief-stricken by every day events.   As 2017 has seen a historic rise of women’s energy to overcome oppression and silencing across our nation, learn more of this energy. From where does this energy rise? How will it be sustained? What does it mean to us as pastoral counselors? Borrowing heavily from Clarissa Pinkola Estes  healing story, “Untying the Strong Woman,” we will strengthen our capacity to engage grief and aggrievedness while being transformed in order to face oppressions, micro and macro aggressions, and strengthen our capacity to love,  to persist and resist.

Come and learn about grief and being aggrieved with out being overwhelmed. We will learn of healing stories and rituals to more effectively deal with grief and engage the healing process.
Reverend Elizabeth Ritzman is an ordained American Baptist woman who is a licensed clinical pastoral counselor, currently serving  as Director of Health Services at Dominican University in healthcare management.  Betsy also has a private practice at an integrated health center.

July 29, 2:15pm - 4:15pm:

Learning Opportunity – Chaplaincy and Specialized Ministry Conference “Self-Care for Clergy Today”
Amidst the personal and social stresses facing clergy today, clergy wellness or self-care demands serious attention.  Various models of clergy wellness and self-care will be presented during this session.  This workshop is designed to help clergy identify stressors which may interfere with one’s ability to minister to others as well as one’s own health and well-being. We will also explore models of wellness and self-care that can offer clergypersons ways to live sound lives. Come and explore ways related to clergy self-care and wellness.

Rev. Dr. Delois Brown Daniels, an ABC ordained clergy woman, ACPE Supervisor, Board Certified Chaplain and chair of the ABHMS endorsement committee will facilitate a conversation that will help God's people identify appropriate resources that could help live and minister more fully and effectively.

Learning Opportunity – Chaplaincy and Specialized Ministry Conference “Remembering our Roots as Military Chaplains”
Representing our denomination as endorsed military chaplains can be difficult, if we forget our roots. Serving as a military chaplain can be challenging.  Remembering and embracing the rootedness we have in our personal faith, our Baptist heritage, and the local congregation and regional and national American Baptist organizations can provide stability, nurturance, and empowerment.  Come and reflect and re-connect with these roots which hold great promise for our identity and service.   Come and learn how the denomination can support you as you serve in relationship to the local congregation and our ABC USA family.

Chaplain (Colonel) Sean Lee, a Board certified chaplain and ABC USA ordained clergyman, currently serves as the Joint Force Headquarters Chaplain for the Maryland Army National Guard. Chaplain Lee, a graduate of the U.S. Army War College, also serves as the full-time Chaplain Federal Technician for the Maryland National Guard. Previous ministries include new church development, pastor and Hospice Chaplain /Manager for Spiritual Services and Bereavement at Hospice of Baltimore.  Chaplain Lee is married to Reverend Sarah Lee and together they serve as Co-Pastors at Calvary Baptist Church in Towson, Maryland.
